Under the Bed With Monkey

Oil on stretched canvas, 12"x16". $129.00 + 7.00 S/H

DJ took this photo of Alta about a year ago. It's such a cute picture, and it captures a side of Alta that visitors don't get to see... she's a closet cuddle bug!

"Hummingbird"

Oil on canvas panel, 5"x7". Not for sale.

“Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy, and celebration. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.”
This quote is from a slip of paper inside a Papyrus greeting card.

"Jacqui's Bird"

Oil on canvas panel, 6"x6". Not for sale.

My friend Jacqui asked me to paint her a little bird, and this was so much fun to paint. The whole time I was thinking about what she would like it to look like, and it turned out pretty well. There will be more birds to come.

"San Miguel Mission"

Oil on canvas panel, 6"x8". $25.00 + 7.00 S/H

This is one of the oldest churches in the country located in Santa Fe NM. I tried to capture it's character in this painting, there were really now straight lines, or square corners. Everything was old and rounded, and very thick.

"Bridge on The River Walk"

Oil on canvas panel, 8"x10". $40.00 + 7.00 S/H

This was an interesting subject. I had a little trouble with the perspective of the sidewalk that I was standing on, but I think in the end it worked out okay. The darkest color's used were a dark gray and Ultramarine blue, which is unusual for me, I almost always use van dyke brown. So my dark areas weren't as dark as they usually are. The tugboat down the river is fun, and I think this is the most success I've had in painting water.

"New Growth"

Oil on canvas panel, 8"x10". $60.00 + 7.00 S/H

This picture is from the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana. After a year of bad forest fires, it was amazing to watch all of the new growth flourish.

"View From the Top"

Oil on canvas panel, 5"x7". $60.00 + 7.00 S/H

I really could have named this several different things, "Scared to Death" or "Frozen Stiff". This is me on the famous double black diamond Liberty Bowl at beautiful Big Sky Montana. In our first year of marriage, DJ convinced me that it would be a good idea to take Lone Peak Tram to the tip top of the mountain and ski down. I almost got back into the tram! But alas, I made it down the hill in one piece! And it's a memory that I will never ever forget.

"Canyon Lake"

Oil on canvas panel, 8"x10". Sold

I love Arizona's lakes because of the dramatic canyon walls next to the brilliant blue water. This painting turned out very geometric. The foreground gave me a little trouble, trying to stay in the same style, and put enough detail into it.

"San Jose Mission"

Oil on canvas panel, 8"x10". $60.00 + 7.00 S/H.

What I love about painting is that your allowed to try something different every day! This one feels very masculine to me, which is interesting because DJ really liked it... I like the straight lines and the contrast between highlight and shadow areas, it feels very clean.

"The Eye of the Storm"

Oil on canvas panel, 8"x10". $45.00 + 7.00 S/H.

This was a fun one to paint, the rays of sun make it a little more pop-arty than what I've been doing, but with the bright colors, I think it works. This was an august sunset over the White Tank mountains, west of Phoenix. The summer monsoons make great clouds and great sunsets.

"Havasu Falls"

Oil on Canvas panel, 6"x8". $60.00 + 7.00 S/H

This is the first time I've ever painted falling water, and it's interesting how much texture it has. It was really neat when you walk to the falls you start at the top, and follow a path down to the pool, you have a great view of the falls the entire walk.

"Our Campsite"

Oil on canvas panel, 8"x10". $60.00 +7.00 S/H

Since I started doing my 30 paintings, I had been conscious to stay in a limited color palette. I tried to limit myself on this one, but it just wasn't working, oh well. This was the campsite that DJ and I stayed at last summer in Crown King. We had the dogs with us for the first time, and boy did it storm. Good thing we had the little structure to keep us dry.

"Montana River Rapids"

Oil on canvas panel, 5"x7". $40.00 +7.00 S/H

This painting was fun, very loose. DJ always reminds me that "painters lie," a motto he picked up from Mark Dean, his lighting design professor in Montana. Much to his surprise I took his advice and "lied" about the color of the water.

"Horsethief Dam"

Oil on canvas panel, 8"x10". $60.00 + 7.00 S/H.

This is Horsethief Dam on the lake at Crown King. DJ and I visited it last summer to get out of the heat of the city, it was so refreshing and beautiful. I used 6 colors in this painting, Torrit Grey, the free color that Gamblin sends out every spring, is the foundation. The painting feels very cool, which is what DJ and I were looking for last summer. Thanks for looking!

Oil on canvas panel, 6"x6". Not For Sale.

With this post I'm 1/3 of the way done with my 30 paintings. It's been really fun, and some days challenging to figure out what to paint. That's why the flower instead of a landscape, even changing the size of the painting keeps it fresh. I'm sure there will be lot's more interesting and different subjects to come. Thanks for looking!

Oil on canvas panel, 6"x8". $30.00 each + 7.00 S/H.

I'm not sure what these two need... It's the same butte in different lighting, maybe the composition just isn't very exciting, I'm not sure. But, I guess I have to move on and start on the next one. Thanks to everyone for looking!

Okay, I didn't say that the 30 days were consecutive... :) I had a very very busy weekend, but now I'm back at it. I was pleased with the sense of distance on this piece. It's amazing what I'm learning by painting many little paintings.

"Wheat Field and Green Trees"

Oil on canvas panel, 6"x8". $60.00 + 7.00 S/H.

This one was a challenge to get the perspective right, without getting too detailed with the wheat shafts. The foreground ended up looking a little bit like it was inspired by Van Gogh.
